DMACC Softball Seeded Eighth in National Tourney; Will Play St. Johns River College in First Round

Posted May 14, 2024

Bears are making their 10th consecutive appearance in the tournament

  • DMACC takes a 46-9 record into tournament play.

  • St. Johns River State College is 50-15.

  • Tournament begins May 20th at Spartanburg, S.C.

The DMACC softball team will take a No. 8 seed into the 2024 National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II Softball World Series, May 20th-25th, at Tyger River Park in Spartanburg, S.C.

The Bears, ranked ninth in the final Division II poll of the season from the NJCAA, will face St. Johns River State College (SJRSC) in a first-round game at 2 p.m. on May 20th. SJRSC brings a 50-15 record into the tournament and is seeded ninth.

A win against SJRSC will put the Bears in a second-round game, likely against top-seeded Parkland College (PC). Potomac State College, seeded 16th, and Macomb Community College (MCC), seeded 17th, will meet in a play-in game on May 20th and the winner will face PC on May 21st. PC, PSC or MCC will meet the DMACC-SJRSC winner at 11 a.m. on May 22nd.

A loss to SJRSC will send DMACC to the consolation bracket where the Bears will face one of three teams pending the results of another play-in game and a first-round game.

Teams losing first-round games and moving to the consolation bracket can still win the national championship but would have to remain unbeaten the rest of the tournament. The double-elimination tournament continues through May 25th when the championship game will be played at 4 p.m.

DMACC Foundation Now Accepting Scholarship Applications for 2024-2025 Academic Year

Posted May 7, 2024

DMACC students, don't leave scholarship money on the table!

The DMACC Foundation is here to help you pursue your educational dreams and is thrilled to launch the second cycle of the DMACC Foundation Scholarship program.

Now through July 15th, students can apply for DMACC Foundation scholarships for the 2024-2025 academic year, which includes the fall 2024, spring 2025 and summer 2025 terms.

Some important notes for students:

  • Completion of the FAFSA is NOT required for DMACC Foundation scholarships.

  • The DMACC Foundation offers many different scholarships (check them out here), but you don't have to fill out an individual application for each scholarship you're interested in! Instead, the DMACC Foundation Award Management System only asks students to fill out one (yes, just one!) general scholarship application, which is then used to automatically match students with any of the DMACC Foundation Scholarship opportunities for which they are qualified.

  • If you applied for DMACC Foundation Scholarship during the first application cycle earlier this year and did not receive a scholarship, your application is still active in the system! You can update and review your application until the July 15th deadline.

  • Reminder: All communications regarding your DMACC Foundation Scholarship application will be directed to your dmacc.edu email address, so don't forget to regularly check it.

APPLY NOW: Don't delay! Submit your application any time before the July 15th deadline.

Learn more now and kickstart your application journey by visitingfoundationscholarships.dmacc.edu

Have questions or need assistance? Reach out to us via email at scholarships@dmacc.edu. We're here to help!

DMACC Honors Students Create Digital Cookbook as Student Resource

Posted May 6, 2024

This semester, a group of five DMACC Honors students collaborated to create a FREE digital cookbook as a resource for students. The students came up with the idea as part of a group service-learning project in their HON100 Introduction to Honors course.

"Our idea was was to provide access to easy-to-make and time-constraint-friendly recipes to allow students the opportunity to make their own foods," said Sophie Etnier, a DMACC Honors and Psychology-Transfer student from Johnston. "We know ordering out regularly can often become pretty pricey, and we also know many students don't know where to begin cooking for themselves, so we made this cookbook to help bridge that gap between students and the kitchen."

To view the cookbook, just click here.

With any questions about the cookbook, please email Sophie Entnier at scetnier@dmacc.edu.

Earlier this month, the Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) Honor Society held its 2024 International Convention in Orlando, Fla, and two students and two advisors from the DMACC Carroll Campus were in attendance!

DMACC Pre-Nursing students Ayu Perwitasari (above, top row, left) and Andreas Setiawan (top row, right), who are both originally from Indonesia and now live in Carroll, were joined by DMACC Carroll Campus Academic Advisor Val Enenbach (above, bottom row, left) and DMACC Carroll Campus English Professor and PTK Advisor Cody Chesmore (bottom row, right) at the convention.

Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) recognizes the academic achievement of college students and provides opportunities for its members to grow as scholars and leaders, and is the official honor society for two-year colleges. Established in 1918, PTK now has a presence on almost 1,300 community college campuses in 11 countries around the world.
