Iowa New Choices / Help for Economically Disadvantaged Students

​DMACC's Coordinator of Student and Community Resources (Iowa New Choices) is available at the Boone and Carroll campuses and assists:

  • Single parents who have full or joint custody of minor children
  • Female offenders
  • Homemakers who are displaced due to loss of a breadwinner's income
  • Low income, full-time homemakers, including those receiving public assistance who need to enter the job market
  • Dislocated workers
  • Low-income individuals needing assistance to prepare for employment

Program Services:

Iowa New Choices promotes participants' personal, academic, and career growth through a variety of services.

Career Assessment and Counseling - The Center coordinator, along with other DMACC staff, is available to assist individuals in looking at possible careers and determining an appropriate training path for these careers. 

Academic, Pre-enrollment, and Financial Aid Counseling- Assistance is available for those individuals wishing to enroll in college in deciding on appropriate classes and programs, applying to DMACC, and finding financial aid.

Pre-employment Counseling - Iowa New Choices offers assistance with job seeking skills such as résumé writing and interviewing techniques.

Referral to Appropriate Supportive Agencies - Individuals needing additional assistance to meet their needs are referred to appropriate agencies.

Financial Assistance for Child Care and Transportation - Eligible individuals may receive child care and transportation assistance.
