English/Language Arts K-8 endorsement - Completion of twenty-four semester hours in English and language arts to include course work in oral communication, written communication, language development, reading, children's literature, creative drama or oral interpretation of literature, and American literature. (IA Board of Educational Examiners)

UNI's LITED 3115 and LITED 3116 satisfy an endorsement criteria and the Reading methods course.

Courses not listed MUST be checked with the Advising Office at DMACC/UNI Registrar's Office prior to enrollment to insure that it will meet requirements.

These credits from DMACC will also apply toward completion of the AA degree.

Coaching Authorization 2+2 Course Requirements

Per the Iowa Department of Education
  1. One semester credit hour or 10 contact hours in a course relating to knowledge and understanding of the structure and function of the human body in relation to physical activity.

  2. One semester credit hour or 10 contact hours in a course relating to knowledge and understanding of human growth and development of children in youth in relation to physical activity.

    • PSY 121 Developmental Psychology 3cr
    • This is also available as a CEU course from the AEA
  3. Two semester credit hour or 20 contact hours in a course relating to knowledge and understanding of the prevention and care of athletic injuries and medical and safety problems relating to physical activity.

    • PET 110 Introduction to Athletic Training 2cr
    • This is also available as a CEU course from the AEA
  4. Semester credit hour or fifteen contact hours relating to knowledge and understanding of the techniques and theory of coaching interscholastic athletics. At least 5 hours of this course must deal with professional ethics in coaching.

    In order to obtain the ENDORSEMENT rather than the authorization, you MUST take the college credit courses and not the CEU classes.
