How to use ALEKS

ALEKS Placement Steps:

  1. Take the initial ALEKS assessment as soon as possible. ALEKS can be taken anywhere you have internet access.
  2. Click on "myDMACC" at the top of the page
    • Log in using your DMACC email address and password.
    • Click on the "Student" tab.
    • Scroll down to Banner Self Service.
    • Select "ALEKS Math Assessment".
  3. You will complete a tutorial to learn how to use ALEKS prior to beginning your assessment. We highly encourage you to take time to complete the entire tutorial so you will be comfortable navigating all the problem types.
  4. After your initial assessment, check the Math Placement Score Table to see the courses in which you are eligible to enroll.
  5. If you did not earn the proficiency score you think you should, you can utilize the prep and learning modules to review and retake the assessment up to four additional times. Please see the Math Placement Preparation Guide for assistance.
  6. If you earned the placement result needed to enroll in a particular course, you are still eligible and encouraged to utilize the ALEKS learning modules for six-months to review and prepare for your math course.

Be Honest About Your Skill Level

There is no benefit to cheating on the placement assessment—your only reward will be that you are eligible to take a class that is too difficult for your current level of mathematical knowledge. Therefore, while you are taking the assessment, do not consult any other source for help (friends, family, internet searches, textbooks, calculators, etc.) The purpose of the placement assessment is to give an accurate measure of your current mathematical skills so that you will be successful in your mathematics courses.
