​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​The DMACC Career Academy located at the Ames Hunziker Center offers career and technical programs primarily to high school students through a partnership with Story County's seven school districts.

The Career Academy serves Story County students from Ames, Ballard, Collins-Maxwell, Colo-Nesco, Gilbert, Nevada and Roland-Story as well as numerous students from other districts. Some of the educational programs include state-of-the-art facilities for auto collision, automotive technology, building trades, criminal forensics, culinary arts, health, teaching academy, visual communication/graphic design, career work experience, and welding. 

Classes Offered

These classes provide area high school students with excellent educational opportunities. All DMACC Career Academy consortium programs are one year long (two semesters). Several academies offer a second year of programming. Students must complete Year 1 before enrolling in Year 2. Registration in these courses is handled by local guidance counselors and principals.​​

Automotive Collision Technology
This program introduces students to the highly technological industry of Auto Collision and Repair. Students will gain experience in the areas of basic shop operations and procedures, welding, painting and shop safety. Twenty-seven DMACC credits are available upon completion of all DMACC Career Academy course offerings. Completion of this program as a high school student provides the opportunity to complete the college diploma program in two college semesters.

Automotive Mechanics Technology
The Automotive Technology program is designed to prepare students for employment in the automotive service industry. This technological program allows students to gain experience with shop tools, automotive engines, brakes, suspension and alignment. Twenty-three DMACC credits are available upon completion of all DMACC Career Academy course offerings.

This program allows students to engage in experiential learning in the areas of Construction and Carpentry. Twenty DMACC credits are available upon completion of all DMACC Career Academy course offerings. Completion of this program as a high school student provides the opportunity to complete the college diploma program in two college semesters. Transportation to job site is required.

Business
The Business Academy is an exploratory academy for students who have an interest in entering the business profession but are not sure what pathway they want to go. Students are provided a foundation of business-related courses that will prepare them for entrance in multiple business-related postsecondary opportunities. Six DMACC credits are available upon completion.

Criminal Justice

Health Occupations

Teacher Academy
The Teacher Academy provides students with an opportunity to explore education-related professions and take part in real-life teaching experiences. Students will spend a total of 120 hours shadowing elementary and secondary school teachers during portions of their assigned class time. Courses fulfill Level I Field Experience requirement at many four-year colleges.

Welding
This program allows students to engage in experiential learning in the area of welding. In addition to a welding skill base, students will explore the greater career field of advanced manufacturing through workplace experience.
