Modern telecommunication networks carry our voice, video and data traffic across town and across the world! An Associate in Applied Science (AAS) degree in Telecommunications Technology will prepare you to work and configure these modern, high tech networks. From training in Wi-Fi, Voice and Data switching, Laser Fiber Optics, Voice over IP (VoIP) and many more, the DMACC Telecommunications program offers a world of variety.
Careers are on the rise and students are finding exciting opportunities with Telecom companies as well as many large land local non-telecom companies. Iowa has more than 150 Telecom companies…more than any other state in the nation!
The telecom program is a full-time, day program and students can start on classes any term.

Next-Gen Technology Scholarship Established
Jarod Lee (third from left) of Preston, IA receives congratulations and a scholarship from Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) President Rob Denson (left to right), Preston Telephone Company General Manager Roger Kilburg, Lee, DMACC Pathway Navigator Teresa Tripp, Iowa Communications Alliance CEO Dave Duncan and DMACC Network Technology Telecommunications Professor Jay Nickelson. Lee is the first to receive the Next-Gen Technology Scholarship from the Iowa Communications Alliance. The scholarship covers three-fourths of the tuition for technical training at the DMACC West Campus and offers part-time work at an Alliance sponsoring company to “earn while you learn.”

New Switch Donation
May 2014
DMACC Network Technology program received some new technology thanks to a donation from Webster-Calhoun Cooperative Communications (WCCTA) in Gowrie, IA. DMACC West Campus Network Technology Program Chair Jay Nickelson, DMACC graduate and WebCal employee Landon Hansch, and WebCal employee Chad Loseke stand by a Nortel (now Genband) C15 Communications server (switch). The Genband switch is used by many Iowa based telephone, video and Internet service providers. DMACC students will be able to train on this new "softswitch" in the DMACC West Campus Telecommunications/ Data communications lab.
