The Animation Club is for students interested in and enthusiastic about animation. Students get together and share their enthusiasm and love for animation through discussions, exercises, drawing sessions, and workshops led by an instructor (or) student leader. Campus Fellowship (CF) is a Christian student organization on the Ankeny Campus. Our purpose is to encourage one another in our relationships with the Lord and bring the truth and love of Jesus Christ to the world around us. This group is for all people seeking fellowship, encouragement, and prayer. The group meets weekly to read from the Bible or a Christian devotional and pray. Although this is a Christian group based on belief in Jesus for salvation, people of all faiths are welcome to attend. The meeting time and location varies each semester based on the needs of the group.

The Chess Club meets Wednesdays in the Building 5 food court. Chess boards are usually set up by 11 a.m. (or even earlier), so feel free to drop by for a game! Don't know how to play? As a member of Club West, you will be right in the heart of all the activities at DMACC West campus! You will gain skills such as hands-on leadership, team-building, goal setting, communicating to get results, budget management, and time management as you plan and host events on campus! Club West is a great opportunity to significantly build your resume and even earn FREE college credit! It’s never too late to join in on the fun! Get involved on campus today!

Communicate! is DMACC’s speech club. We meet three Fridays a semester during the 12:15-12:45 class time. Students may bring their lunch, and dessert will be furnished. The purpose of the club is to increase understanding of communication principles in a fun and social setting. Activities during the meetings have included improv, charades, speech –related games, and impromptus. Having the Communicate! Club entitles the college to offer honors in speech to any student at DMACC who meets the requirements of Sigma Chi Eta, the honors organization of the National Communication Association. Students at DMACC may also earn honors from the Iowa Communication Association. All students are welcome to join Communicate!, and all students are encouraged to earn the honors in speech. Students not interested in earning speech honors are still welcome to attend the Communicate! meetings. For more information including how to become a member, contact the advisor. The CSC, Community Service Club, is a student lead club that assists others through volunteering. We aim to help fellow students at DMACC as well as the greater community through personal acts of kindness, purposeful projects that target the needs of DMACC students, and through collaborations with other organizations to reach the greater Des Moines area.

Concert Choir as MUS 143 and Concert Choir as a club are the same thing. All students interested in singing in Concert Choir are welcome to register for MUS 143 and by doing so, to automatically become a choir club member. As a class, Concert Choir (MUS 143) studies a wide variety of choral music from all historical periods. Two concerts per semester demonstrate the results of that study. As a club, Concert Choir members participate in SAC projects and conduct money-making events to raise money for club/class activities and to offset the expenses of annual trip or club activities at the end of DMACC’s spring semester.

This group provides encouragement and opportunities for growth and development in all kinds of creative writing. During meetings, we read/write/set goals, come up with ideas for creative writing, learn skills in creative writing, and share our work with peers. Contact advisor Ann McBee for more information!

The Criminal Justice Club appeals to students in the Criminal Justice program; however, any DMACC student who successfully completes a background investigation is welcome to join the club and fulfill specified requirements.   The Club is a collaboration between the Polk County Sheriff’s Office and Des Moines Area Community College. The Club is designed to give students a chance to learn more hands on, practical applications in the field of criminal justice.

CyberThreat club is a cybersecurity focused club meant for enthusiastic students who wish to network with like-minded individuals. Meetings consist of a five minute “Weekly News” section, then an activity/presentation. Previous activities have been “Capture the Flag”, Tabletops (Small group discussions), and lock picking. Some previous presentations have been about Phishing, Internships opportunities, “CyberSecurity Degree” at DMACC, and an intro to Linux. Are you interested in getting more involved with progressive politics and taking action on issues that matter to you? If so, the DMACC Democrats Club may be for you. We meet with candidates and elected officials, volunteer for campaign activities, and learn together about current political initiatives.

In the past, the club has toured factories, mines where diesel equipment is utilized and attended the Mid-American Trucking show. The Club also tours the local facilities of prospective employers. While this club would appeal to students in the Diesel Technology programs, all DMACC students are welcome to participate in any club activity or meeting

The purpose of this group is to foster understanding, support, and social justice for LGBTQA individuals. Various educational and social activities are used to accomplish these goals. The group meets every other Wednesday at 12:30 p.m. in Room 213. Contact the Advisors or stop by the front desk for specific meeting dates.

The Urban Latino Student Clubs mission is to provide support to all DMACC current and prospective students. We focus on building strong and healthy relationships between club members and all communities in central Iowa. We meet weekly to plan and execute a variety of community projects. The International Club is open to all DMACC students, faculty, and staff. The International Club seeks to serve and support international students during their time at DMACC by providing opportunities to meet people from many different countries and form new friendships. The LGBTQ+ Affinity Group is open to all DMACC employees and students. The group meets the 4th Friday of each month at noon on Zoom. Anyone who is interested in participating in a meeting or getting more information can reach out through email to LGBTQAffinity@dmacc.edu.

Providing leadership skills that will last a lifetime, you will learn principles and behaviors needed to be a strong leader. These include identifying your passions, empowering other to conquer whatever lies ahead and identifying your purpose to help you set successful goals.

NANDA is dedicated to maintaining the excellence of the DMACC Newton nursing program, expanding the Newton DMACC nursing program, and supporting and encouraging students in the program. NANDA holds activities that promote both the profession of nursing and the DMACC Newton nursing program. NANDA meets at least once a month during the academic year.

We are a group of Nursing Students. Our goal is to further prepare nursing students for their profession by becoming involved in our community, learning from others and networking. We hold workshops to help build re​sumés and skills. We meet once a month. Some meetings are virtual or in person.

Can you play an instrument? Want to have fun? Join the DMACC Pep Band. The band plays for most home DMACC basketball games. All students, faculty/staff or friends of DMACC can be in the band. We provide a drum set, but everyone else brings their own instruments.

A national honor society for 2-year college students with a 3.5 GPA or higher that provides an opportunity to develop leadership skills! Scholarship opportunities galore! Contact advisor Jessica Thistle for more information!

To be eligible for membership a student must complete a minimum of twelve hours of associate degree course work (community college credits) and reach a grade point average (GPA) of 3.5 or higher. Students generally must maintain a high academic standing throughout their enrollment in the two-year college.

PTK is a national honor society, and the local chapter of PTK is Beta Gamma Rho. Membership is by invitation once a student has earned 12 DMACC credits with a GPA of 3.5 or better. PTK does not hold regular meetings; however, students are encouraged to be a part of SAC in order to enhance their leadership skills and add to their volunteer experience. PTK members also enjoy the benefits of scholarships, conferences, recognition at graduation, and more.

To achieve this purpose, Phi Theta Kappa shall provide opportunity for the development of leadership and service, for an intellectual climate for exchange of ideas and ideals, for lively fellowship for scholars, and for stimulation of interest in continuing academic excellence.

The purpose of Phi Theta Kappa shall be to recognize and encourage scholarship among two-year college students. To achieve this purpose, Phi Theta Kappa shall provide opportunity for the development of leadership and service, for an intellectual climate for exchange of ideas and ideals, for lively fellowship for scholars, and for stimulation of interest in continuing academic excellence. To be eligible for membership, a student must have earned at least 12 credits and have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.5. Letters of invitation are mailed to all eligible Urban Campus students each fall and spring semester. An informal induction is held in the fall and a formal induction ceremony is held each spring semester.

Awareness, equality, and acceptance. It’s not just a gay thing…it’s a human thing. Live United. We are a student group that invites LGBTQ+ students (and allies) into a safe, welcoming environment. We serve to raise awareness and educate the campus community about LGBTQ+ issues as well as offering students an opportunity to socialize. Events such as National Coming Out Day and The Day of Silence have been planned each semester, as well as outings, movie nights, and fundraising opportunities. This student-run group is open to all students who want to make Newton campus a fun, eventful, and active place. You can volunteer a little or a lot - whatever works for you.

SAC is about preparing leaders—in the community, in the workplace, in life. SAC members plan a variety of activities and offer a wide range of services to enhance campus life, as well as teaching you the organizational skills to juggle classes, family, and work. SAC members are an elected body--the campus Student Leaders.

The Student Activities Council will be made up of a mix of club representatives, at-large members, and on-campus housing representatives if applicable. Larger clubs will be responsible for one representative to serve on the Student Activities Council.

The Boone Campus Social Justice Club works to foster an inclusive, equitable, and diverse campus culture. The Sustainable Urban Club promotes sustainability by engaging and connecting members of the DMACC Urban community. Students meet to discuss environmental issues, get involved with opportunities to build a sustainable community, and create meaningful change. We seek to fulfill our mission through the application of our four-pillar model of sustainability: Society, Economy, Environment, Culture.

​The theatre department, under the direction of Kay Mueller, produces one play fall semester and one play spring semester. Plays produced include farces, comedies, mysteries, and an occasional musical.

Tech club involves students in the Vet Tech program, however, any DMACC student is welcome to attend meetings and participate in activities (Non vet tech program students will not be allowed to handle animals.) The club engages in fundraising activities to benefit animal shelters as well as participating in events promoting animal health welfare.
