Local jazz legend Scott Davis teaches
Jazz History at DMACC and started the DMACC Jazz Band.
Before coming to DMACC in 2012, Scott Davis taught middle school and high school jazz band for 20 year in the Des Moines Public Schools and 10 years in the Waukee Public Schools.
He has performed with the Des Moines Symphony, Festival Brass, and the Turner Center Jazz Orchestra. Davis can be heard playing trumpet and harmonica with the variety dance band, FreeStyle and trumpet and flugelhorn with the Scott Davis Jazz Quartet. The Scott Davis Jazz Quartet has released two CD’s.
Davis was inducted into the Community Jazz Center Hall of Fame in 2012 and the Iowa Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame, with his band FreeStyle, in 2015.
Davis is a graduate of Hoover High School. He earned a Bachelor's degree in Music Education from the University of Northern Iowa and a Master's Degree from Drake University.
