HiSET Requirements

HiSET students of all ​ages must be prepared to present a valid government-issued picture ID (e.g., driver's license, state ID, passport) at each official testing session.

If you are 18 years old, before you can officially enroll:

  1. Present an official statement from your high school confirming that you are no longer enrolled.
  2. Present a copy of your most recent high school transcript for verification of graduation date.
  3. Be prepared to present a valid government-issued picture ID (e.g., driver's license, state ID, passport) at each official testing session.

If you are 17 years old:

  1. Present an official statement from your high school confirming that you are no longer enrolled or a letter from a government-sponsored program for out-of-school youth.
  2. Present a copy of your most recent high school transcript for verification of graduation date.
  3. Present a note of consent from a parent or guardian (except those who are married, divorced, or have a dependent).
  4. Be prepared to present a valid government-issued picture ID (e.g., driver's license, state ID, passport) at each official testing session.

If you are 16 years old:

You must present a copy of your court order. If you do not have a court order, please contact our program and we will help you determine your options!

If you are Home Schooled:

  1. If you are 17 years old, you will need a letter from a parent stating that your education is home-based.
  2. If no transcript is provided, the diploma is issued at age 18.
  3. Be prepared to present a valid government-issued picture ID (e.g., driver's license, state ID, passport) at each official testing session.​

If you are in a Correctional Setting:

In certain correctional settings, 16 and 17-year-olds may be tested and receive diplomas under special guidelines. Contact the HiSET office at DMACC for more information (515-256-4924) by about the site you would like to attend.

Diplomas:

  1. Diplomas and transcripts are issued to students through DiplomaSender.com. ​Upon the first request, students are issued these documents free of charge. Subsequent requests will cost $15/document.
  2. Students who successfully complete their 5 official tests prior to turning 18 will be awarded their diploma with their graduating class.​
