Virtual Eve​nts

Professional Skills Sessions: During these virtual sessions learn from business leaders and human resources experts on important professional tools and skills valuable in today’s job market.

Career Fair Preparation Sessions: Join us for one of these virtual sessions to learn how to navigate a career fair. During the session students will learn what to wear, what materials to bring, the types of questions to ask, and how to network with employers to learn more about current or future job opportunities at a career fair. This virtual session will be hosted on multiple dates and times in preparation for a career fair. If you would like to attend the high school career fair, please register below.​

Career Exploration Days

These events allow high school students, parents and educators to explore a career pathway by attending hands-on activity sessions and demonstrations. Connect to future careers, meet with professionals and learn about DMACC programs! Transportation is the student’s responsibility.

NAWIC Women in Construction Day (National Association of Women in Construction)

Description: Join the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) Greater Des Moines Chapter, Women in Science and Engineering (WiSE), DMACC, and Iowa State University for a day exploring career opportunities for women in construction. Women construction professionals will discuss their professions and career paths that lead them to the positions they hold today. You will also have the opportunity to participate in hands-on activities, talk with current college students, and tour a local construction site (the new Industrial Building at Iowa State University) to see the building process firsthand.

*Participants are REQUIRED to wear closed-toed shoes and pants. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) will be provided for all participants. Lunch will be provided.

Electrical, Renewable, Electronics and Robotics Exploration Day

Description: Spend the morning with DMACC learning about Electric Utility, Electrical Trades, Renewable Energy/Industrial Technician, Electronics Engineering and Robotics & Control Systems programs. Whether your interests are placing and climbing powerline poles across the countryside or wiring buildings; Maintaining electronic equipment in offices, hospitals, and factories or programming robots and automation - this is the event for you. You will have the opportunity to participate in hands-on activities, talk with current college students and faculty. Pet a robotic dog and learn about solar and wind power and see what "sparks" your future!

*Participants are required to wear closed-toed shoes and pants. Lunch will be provided.

Local employers will be present to discuss their industry and opportunities in the field today.​

From the nurse who helps care for patients, to the imaging staff, to the paramedics and EMTs who take care of patients pre-hospital and through transfers. You will explore different opportunities in healthcare from a clinical side through conversations and activities with over 12 different departments through Broadlawns, MercyOne, UnityPoint healthcare professionals. In addition, you’ll learn about educational opportunities in these fields from DMACC, Des Moines University, Grand View, and Mercy College.​

Weiler manufactures industry leading products for the asphalt paving market using the latest technology and equipment. With over 400,000 square feet of manufacturing space, the facility is equipped with machining tools, welding, powder and wet paint assembly. This event is designed for students interested in a career in manufacturing.

Explore the Justice System at the Polk County Courthouse

Description: Visit the Polk County Courthouse and observe a trial in session. Students will also hear from professionals in a variety of legal fields including: District Court Judge, Judicial Specialists – Court Room Support, Court Specialists – Case Coordinators, Law Clerks and the Supervisor and Clerk from the Polk County Clerk’s Office. This is a great day for any students interested in Court Reporting, Paralegal, Public Administration, Criminal Justice, Law Enforcement or Pre-law/Law School.
