DMACC Pre-Education Program

Quality Education

DMACC's Pre-Education Program provides a quality educational experience for all individuals interested in pursuing a teaching degree. Teacher training is constantly changing to meet the needs of the next generation of learners. Education courses at DMACC focus on providing engaging learning opportunities that are relevant to current instructional strategies, pedagogy and innovation, while enhancing the skills necessary for effective teaching.

Smooth Transfer

Pre-Education students at DMACC are highly recruited to continue their education at 4-year colleges and universities due to DMACC's reputation for preparing students for the next level in teacher training. Our students benefit from well-established articulation agreements and academic advising to assist them with their future transfer plans.

Statewide Collaboration

DMACC is an active member of the Iowa Association for Colleges of Teacher Education (IACTE) and provides input and representation for community colleges at statewide conferences. DMACC's Pre-Education Program is recognized for its collaboration on local and statewide projects such as STEM, InTASC Standards, Quality Assessment Grant, Recruitment of quality minority teachers~3D program, and Professional Development Schools. DMACC was the first community college to offer education students a STEM certificate which required additional Math and Science coursework and STEM seminars.

We hope to see you at DMACC soon!

DMACC student receives STEM certificate

Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) Pre-Education student Chris Drake (third from left) of Johnston receives a Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) certificate from DMACC President Rob Denson (right), DMACC Education Professor Patsy Steffen (left) and Glen Dippold, Dorothy Wyant’s nephew, during a recent presentation in President Denson’s office. Drake received his certificate for completion of the Dorothy A. Wyant Teacher Education STEM Scholars Program. He is one of many Pre Education students at DMACC who are focused on enhancing their knowledge in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math in order to improve the quality of instruction for their future students.

Through the generosity of the Dorothy A. Wyant estate, students like Chris are reaching this goal as they work toward the completion of their AA or AS degree. DMACC’s Pre Education Program remains dedicated to providing future educators the opportunities to enter the teaching profession well prepared to inspire the next generation of students. Thank you to Glen Dippold, Dorothy Wyant’s nephew, and family for their continued support of the teaching profession.

DMACC Pre-Education Alumni
I am thankful for all DMACC has done for me, both as a student and alumni. My professors here at my university have been amazed by the educational content I know coming into their classes, and my level two field experience coordinator has been very confident in my ability to teach and understand students. They are extremely happy with the preparation I received and I am so thankful I began my college experience at DMACC.

Catherine Gillespie

We are always excited to have transfer students from DMACC. They bring a wealth of positive experiences to our education major and are well prepared to move to the next level of their educational experience at Drake School of Education.
