Credit Hour Workload Goal: Carnegie Units are used to gauge how much average time students should be spending each week on coursework. For a 16-week, 3-credit hour face-to-face course, students would meet in a classroom about 3 hours per week. They would be expected to spend two hours outside of class for every hour in class (i.e., reading, studying, writing, etc.), which results in 9 hours per week total.
