WHAT

DMACC administrators, board members and the local community will pay tribute to the past, present and future of the DMACC Urban Campus in downtown Des Moines during a Community Night event from 4-7 p.m. on Wed., July 17th, at the Urban Campus.

Members of the public are invited to attend this FREE event, which will feature campus tours, games, giveaways, refreshments and program exploration, as well as the planting of a new “Founder's Tree" dedicated to the many community leaders and supporters of the Urban Campus.

In the late 1970s, DMACC was considering a plan to consolidate its locations into the Ankeny Campus. The fledging Urban Campus experienced tremendous support from students, faculty and the local community. At the time, the rallying cry was “keep education downtown!" Those voices were heard and the Urban Campus' first Dean, Dr. Zack Hamlett Jr., was charged with making the Urban Campus a reality. Today, the DMACC Urban Campus has robust enrollment and is the College's second-largest location.
