DMACC's Chance Key Named NJCAA Division II Third-Team All-American

  • Key finished the 2023-24 season at 9-0 with a 2.47 earned run average.

The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA)​ has named DMACC's Chance Key a 2024 NJCAA Division II Third-Team All-American.

Key, a sophomore from Waverly, is the first member of DMACC baseball team to earn All-American honors since 2019 and one of 14 DMACC baseball players to have earned All-American honors since 2004.

The All-American award comes on the heels of Key being named to the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) Division II All-Region 11 Baseball Team, as well as the ICCAC Region 11 Pitcher of the Year. Key was also a finalist for the ICCAC Male Student-Athlete of the Year Award​.

Key completed the 2023-24 season with a 9-0 record with a 2.47 earned run average and five complete games. He pitched 83 and two-thirds innings, allowing 35 runs, 23 earned run, on 69 hits. Key struck out 85 batters, walked 24 and averaged 9.14 strikeouts per nine innings. He compiled a 1.11 WHIP (walks and hits per innings pitched).

Key has signed a national letter of intent to continue his academic and baseball career at Campbell University in Buies Creek, N.C.

The DMACC baseball team finished the 2023-24 season with a 38-26 record. The Bears won the NJCAA Region 11 Championship and the North Plains District Championship to qualify for the NJCAA Division II Baseball World Series for the first time since 2012. DMACC went 2-2 in the national tournament and was one of just six teams remaining in the tournament before the Bears were eliminated following a 3-1 loss to St. Johns River State College (SJRSC).
